I was born and raised in the wonderful state of Michigan. You could say I’ve always been one of those people, who had a plan for how my life would pan out. For the longest time I thought my path would keep me in Michigan, close to my friends and family. This would have definitely been the more comfortable route, but soon after graduating college, I started dating my boyfriend Buck.
Buck and I grew up together and have been friends for years, but he is currently in the military based in Mississippi. For two years we made long distance work, but eventually we both got to a point where we needed to be together. That meant me moving down to Mississippi. The idea of leaving Michigan terrified me and was not something I decided overnight. Shoot, it went against my whole “plan” that I had mapped out for my life. However, I knew if I didn’t try, I would regret it. Luckily, with the support and encouragement of friends and family I made the move to leave Michigan.
This was the hardest, yet best decision I ever made. Starting fresh in a new location was not easy, and came with a new set of challenges I had yet to experience before. I found that the key to my happiness was keeping an open mind and to finding the beauty in my surroundings. I wanted to share our journey, so I created Restless Roots as a map to all things home and travel around military bases. I hope watching us find our new normal, wherever the military leads us, inspires you to get out and try new things!
